The only rock group Daniel supposedly knew about when he decided to start drawing was The Monkees. “And I still like The Monkees. I still listen to them.”1 This is notable as coincidental to the constant theme of and identification with ‘monkeys’ in Daniel’s later songwriting and notebooks. Although Daniel claims that he found them at four years old, in the 1991 Harris Video Interviews Jeff Tartakov pointed out that The Monkees didn’t exist until Daniel was five, so Daniel’s memory is a bit off here.2
